Επιστημονική ονομασία: Eucalyptus Globulus. Περιγραφή: Μακρόβιο αειθαλές δέντρο ύψους 80 – 90 μ., της οικογένειας Μυρτοειδών. Υπάρχουν πάνω από 500 είδη του φυτού στη γη. Καταγωγή: Από την Αυστραλία. Στην Ευρώπη διαδόθηκε τον 18ο αι. και το πρώτο δέντρο φυτεύτηκε στην Ελλάδα στον Βοτανικό Κήπο Αθηνών το 1864.
