Επιστημονική ονομασία: Mentha Arvensis. Περιγραφή: Αρωματικό φυτό της οικογένειας Χειλανθών. Ιστορία: Gνωστή η χρήση του aνά τους αιώνες ως αναλγητικό, κατασταλτικό του βήχα και αποσυμφορητικό σε μπούκωμα και δυσκολία στην εισπνοή.

Τεχνική: Εξάγεται από τα φύλλα του φυτού όταν αυτό είναι σε ανθοφορία, με απόσταξη ατμού. Σύσταση: Με περιεκτικότητα σε Τανίνες: μενθόνη (κετόνη) και μενθόλη (αλκοόλη). Η τελευταία αποδείχτηκε εξίσου αναλγητική με την παρακεταμόλη στον πονοκέφαλο. Μυρωδιά: Δυνατή και πικάντικη. Χώρα προέλευσης: Ινδία
