Επιστημονική ονομασία: Melaleuca Alternifolia. Περιγραφή: Μικρό δέντρο της οικογένειας Myrtaceae, με βελονοειδή φύλλα και άνθη λευκά, κίτρινα ή μοβ. Καταγωγή: Φύεται κυρίως στην Αυστραλία. Ιστορία: Αναφορές για ιατρική χρήση του από τους Αβορίγινες της Αυστραλίας. Στον Β’ Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο το έλαιό του ήταν φάρμακο πρώτης ανάγκης για λοιμώξεις, επούλωση τραυμάτων και δερματικά προβλήματα.

Τεχνική: Εξάγεται από τα φύλλα και τα κλαδιά του δέντρου, με απόσταξη ατμού. Σύσταση: Με περιεκτικότητα σε α και β-πινένιο, μυρσένιο, σαβινένιο, α-φελανδρένιο, α-τερπινένιο, γ-τερπινένιο , τερπινέν-4-όλη (30 – 48% ) και α-τερπινεόλη, λιμονένιο, 1,8- cineol (15% ) , p-κυμένιο, τερπινολένιο, λιναλοόλη, συστατικά που χαρίζουν στο έλαιο τις θεραπευτικές του ιδιότητες.
