Το έλαιο του λιναρόσπορου ψυχρής πίεσης είναι μεταξύ των τροφίμων που είναι πλούσια σε πολυακόρεστα λιπαρά οξέα, ιδιαίτερα άλφα-λινολενικό οξύ (ωμέγα 3) και το λινελαϊκό οξύ (ωμέγα 6). Αυτά τα απαραίτητα λιπαρά οξέα πρέπει οπωσδήποτε να λαμβάνονται με τη τροφή, καθώς ο οργανισμός δεν είναι σε θέση να τα παράγει.
Η ποικίλη και ισορροπημένη διατροφή θα πρέπει να παράγει επαρκείς ποσότητες, αλλά με τις σημερινές μορφές τροφών σε πολλές περιπτώσεις, μια διατροφή αυτού του είδους παραμένει μια θεωρητική πρόσληψης ω3 και ω6.Η μέση κατανάλωση σε ψάρια, ξηρούς καρπούς, όσπρια, ηλιέλαιο και καλαμποκέλαιο συχνά δεν αρκούν για να εξασφαλίσουν μια φυσιολογική σωστή πρόσληψη αυτών των θρεπτικών ουσιών.
